Christian Dior - Les ateliers surpeuplés (1953)

Tirage argentique représentant les ateliers de Dior en 1953. La légende indique les ateliers sont alors surpeuplés par 800 couturières et que l'extension au bâtiment adjacent prévue par la maison de couture est ralentie par son ancien locataire, le ministère de l'économie.

Paris: overcrowded conditions at the Christian Dior workshop, where 800 young seamstresses busily stitch the Parisian designer's high fashion creations, may force Dior to cut his staff during the busiest season. The French labor ministry has outlawed crowded quarters like the workroom above, and turned a deaf ear to Dior's protest that he bought adjacent space for expansion purposes five years ago but can't get the present tenants, the French Ministry of Economic Affairs, to vacate."
